Tutorial 1: Initializing Data Files

First, we'll need to create data files.

Start AMP (see instructions in introductory section) and move to Menu 1.3 Initialize Data Files (Note: 1.3 is a short form for saying: select menu item 1 from the main menu, then menu item 3 from the next menu, etc.).

We will create two families of files called DIV1 and DIV2, respectively.

Select menu item 9, 1.3.9 Initialize a Family of Files, to create a family of files; then enter the name DIV1, and press ENTER. Repeat this process for DIV2.

We have created two families of files, DIV1 and DIV2. However, by default the two families will use separate auditors files. To have the families use a common auditors file we must make the following change.

QUIT back to the main Menu. Select option 5 Long Term Planning & Budgeting Menu, then select option 4, 5.4 Maintain Long Term Plan Parameters using DIV2 as input. Change the Associated Auditors File to DIV1. SAVE and QUIT back to the Long Term Planning & Budgeting Menu.

We can now start entering data.

QUIT back to the Main Menu and we will define the risk models.

This brings us to the end of this tutorial. We have skipped some sections of AMP in the interest of reducing the time requirements of the tutorial. We encourage you to explore the other features and experiment, perhaps by applying AMP to your own data.
